Cabo Girão Skywalk: The €5 Ticket, the Glass Floor and the Rest of Your Day

At Cabo Girão, the glass is only part of the visit. Look beyond your feet and the south coast opens towards Câmara de Lobos and Funchal, with small cultivated plots far below the cliff. If you are planning the stop, the useful questions are simple: what does entry cost, how will you get there, and does it fit the rest of your day?

What you are paying to see

The viewpoint stands at an altitude of 580 metres and has a suspended glass platform. The coastal land below includes Fajã do Rancho and Fajã do Cabo Girão. It is a viewpoint visit, so leave time to look along the coast rather than treating the glass-floor photograph as the whole experience.

If looking down through glass makes you uncomfortable, there is no reason to force yourself into a photograph. Decide whether the stop suits your group and follow the signs and staff instructions on arrival. A clear horizon makes a difference here: in poor visibility, the coastline can disappear even when the platform is open.

Tickets and opening hours

As checked on 2 October 2026, the regional government’s ticket portal lists admission at €5 for an adult. Children aged 12 and under are exempt, as are Madeira residents and people with reduced mobility or wheelchair users under the published conditions. Check the documentation required for an exemption.

The portal lists viewpoint opening hours as 08:00–20:00 daily. Visitors who are not residents can request tickets online without registering. Use the official Cabo Girão ticket page for the current fee, access instructions and any updates before leaving.

Keep the ticket separate from your transport plans. Paying for a taxi or an excursion does not automatically pay for the viewpoint; check the inclusions rather than relying on the word “skywalk” in the title.

Make it part of a south-coast outing

Cabo Girão is in the municipality of Câmara de Lobos, on the hills above the south coast. Pairing it with a visit to Câmara de Lobos gives the outing more variety: a clifftop view followed by time around the harbour. Agree the route and return arrangements with your driver if using a taxi.

If driving, check the route to the actual viewpoint, not just the village. If using public transport, confirm the stop, walking section and return timetable with the operator for the date of your visit. A bus to Câmara de Lobos does not by itself settle the journey uphill.

When a guided day trip makes sense

A tour is useful if you want Cabo Girão within a wider day and prefer someone else to handle the driving. It is less compelling if you only want a brief viewpoint stop: a full-day west-coast excursion commits you to a much longer itinerary.

One current GetYourGuide option combines the skywalk with Porto Moniz, Seixal and Fanal in a 4WD outing. Its listing distinguishes transport from additional entrance charges, food and drinks. Check the selected option’s exclusions, pickup area and suitability before booking; an off-road excursion is a different experience from a direct transfer to the viewpoint.

Keep the rest of the day realistic

Do not put a separate north-coast drive on the same day simply because Cabo Girão itself looks like a short stop. The viewpoint’s place in your itinerary matters more than the time spent on the glass. If your base is still undecided, our guide to where to stay in Madeira explains how location affects days out.
